Instagram

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Monday, March 16, 2015, In : Instagram
So a while back I finally joined the masses and created an Instagram account. I don't know why I had resisted creating one for the longest time, as I usually jump on new tech, sites, etc. pretty quickly. I guess I just didn't see or have the need for it.

For now I plan on using my Instagram feed to share my collection of toys, memorabilia, artwork and other miscellaneous items that represent the geeky side of me.

Vintage Masters of the Universe Flea Market Finds - 1/19/2014

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, In : toys

As my most recent posts have shown, I am on a bit of an 80's and 90's nostalgia kick, mostly in the realms of toys, comics and hobbies. One of the major toy lines from the 1980's was Masters of the Universe from Mattel, featuring the mighty He-Man and his arch-nemesis Skeletor. While at the local flea market a few weeks ago, I came across a few booths selling some vintage 1980's MOTU items and I couldn't resist picking a few of them up.

While looking through a booth mostly dedicated to 80's an...

8-Bit Zombie Summer Release Write-up

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Sunday, August 25, 2013, In : toys

I'm not exactly sure when and where I first heard about 8-bit Zombie, but I do know that I won't forget my first purchase. Back in May of this year, I was again turned on to the 8-bit Zombie brand, and immediately headed to Facebook to "Like" their page and to keep abreast of what was looking to be another great Summer release. Teasers for the release were coming out fairly often, and thankfully, the forest fires in Colorado avoided the 8-bit Zombie HQ, allowing for an on-time release on Satu...

Marvel Universe Series III Trading Cards - 1992

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Monday, May 27, 2013,
Back in 1992, shortly after my family moved from Kansas to Minnesota between my 4th and 5th grade years, I became acquainted with the world of comic books. At the time, I was 10 years old and had a few comics before that time period, but I was never really introduced to the Marvel or DC Universes. I got my first glimpse of the Marvel Universe Series III trading cards on the playground of Sunny Hollow Elementary School (I always hated that name, and apparently the name has changed). Once I had...

Right in the Nostalgia!

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Saturday, May 18, 2013,
This is just a quick teaser post, so nothing too flashy.

I have been on a big 80's and 90's kick lately, and have acquired a few new items that brought me right back to childhood. Some of these items are even new in the box, but some are also used. I have some champagne tastes and a Keystone Light budget when it comes down to these extras, but I hope to have a pretty sweet display setup sometime in the future.

Below you will find a couple sneak peeks at what I have been up to, with more pics, m...

LEGO Minecraft Micro World

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, April 18, 2013,
Well, I finally got around to putting my Lego Minecraft Micro World together, and snapped a few pics of the finished product. I also took video of the build, but haven't had a chance to take a look at it and edit it down into something worth watching.

The whole build took about an hour or so, but was very straightforward. Take a look!

LEGO my...Minecraft?

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, March 14, 2013, In : Minecraft
Lately I have been spending more of my free time with various random builds in my Minecraft server. I love Minecraft, as it feels like a huge version of LEGOs in a virtual environment and brings back childhood memories of crazy builds. (Plus a few nightmares of stepping on pieces with my bare feet.) The LEGO Minecraft kit has been available since June of 2012, but it sells out almost instantly whenever it is available. I couldn't even find one of the kits when I was at Legoland California in ...

Eight Rivers

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, June 7, 2012, In : Jamaica
Spanish for "Eight Rivers", Ocho Rios, Jamaica is located on the North coast of Jamaica. A funny thing about the name is that there are not eight rivers in the area; it is believed that it is most likely a British corruption of the original Spanish name "Las Chorreras" ("the waterfalls"). You may recognize this name for a few reasons. For one, the famous Dunn's River Falls is located here and offers locals and tourists alike a chance to climb the nearly 600ft waterfall. Another reason you may...

Avacyn Restored Pre-Release Results

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Monday, May 7, 2012, In : Magic
After some hassle, this update is up about a week later than planned.

As mentioned back in my December(!) post, I returned to the game of Magic The Gathering recently. Actually, it's already been 2 years since I busted out my cards on my birthday in 2010 after some harassing by one Mr. Bernardo. I started off slow, but ramped up after my first few months, attending many Friday Night Magic events in the following months. I'll expand on my return to the game in another post, as I want to touc...

incoming: vacation x 2

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, December 22, 2011, In : ryankerschner.com
Vacation 1:

Working in education does have it's perks, one of the best being the amount of time off we get. Next up is the 10 day Christmas break where I typically end up sleeping in too late every day, resulting in me not getting half the things done that I want to get done (video games, MTG, housework, video games) on break.

My goal for this upcoming break is to not sleep in past 10:00am more than twice. I think I can probably pull this off, but I'm sure New Years day will be one of the two 1...

mini-update

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, May 7, 2009,
So last week I read a Lifehacker post about free Google profile business cards. I was lucky enough to jump in soon enough and get mine ordered. I was really excited to get them, mostly for the novelty of the idea. I talked with my brother today, and he was actually just finishing up the design for his business cards. I need to let him know about iprint.com, where I got the cards. Check them out if you are in the market for some great business cards, or other printed goods.

Well, they came in t...

what's new?

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Saturday, May 2, 2009,
So much for keeping this place updated often. 1/2-day Fridays are coming up in two weeks, so I think Friday's will be my update day. Once I get in the habit of updating on Fridays when I have plenty of time, I think it will be easier to keep it going once we go back to full-day Fridays at the end of Summer.

I signed up for mint.com last night, and after spending just an hour with it, I love it! I can't wait to sit down with Ashley and really get it tailored to our lives.

In trying to keep up wi...

slacking

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, April 2, 2009,
So, I realized that I have been slacking when it comes to site updates. Work has been crazy busy and my free time has been spent taking care of things other than this site. Never fear, I am here...just not on a set schedule for updates just yet. A couple items of business though...

  1. This is my new site design for the time being. Simple, nothing flashy, trying to keep it un-cluttered.
  2. I've contacted a friend of ours to start working on some possible background patterns or icons for my "online per...

Diggnation #193

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Friday, March 13, 2009,

Dream jobs - I don't know that there are any true dream jobs out there.
Dad walks in - Parents. Gotta love 'em.
Atlantis - Still a lost city.
LED tunnel - Not impressed. I had high hopes for this video.
Pepsi - I can't wait to get my hands on this stuff. Hopefully it becomes a permanent product.

Diggnation #192

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, March 5, 2009,

Mint.com - I'm with Alex on this, I am just still reluctant to give all that info to the "cloud".
Circuit City - Good riddance.
Jimmy Fallon - I have high hopes, and am glad to see that Jimmy is in touch with my demographic.
Windows 7 - I've got the beta...just haven't had a free minute to get it installed on a test bed. Looking forward to this release.
Safari 4 - Safari + Microsoft = Does not compute? I may give it a whirl; I really liked the look of the multiple windows.

changing things up a bit

Posted by Ryan Kerschner on Thursday, March 5, 2009, In : ryankerschner.com
So I've been contemplating moving to an even simpler style of site from the list that Synthasite provides. I really liked my current style over at the current ryankerschner.com, but I think I'm losing interest in it fast. See Below.

For now, I'm just going to use this site as a testbed to see if swapping it out is something I want to do.
